General Info:
Antipsychotic medication used to treat schizophrenia. Zyprexa, Olanzapine is used to treat psychotic mental disorders, such as schizophrenia. Drug therapy is integral to the management of acute psychotic episodes and accompanying violent behavior in patients with schizophrenia and generally is required for long-term stabilization to improvesymptoms between episodes and to minimize the risk of recurrent acute episodes.Antipsychotic agents are the principal class of drugs used for the management of all phases of schizophrenia and generally are effective in allsubtypes of the disorder and subgroups of patients. Patient response and tolerance to antipsychotic agents are variable, and patients who do not respond to or tolerate one drug often may be successfully treated with an agent from a different class or with a different adverse effect profile.
Zyprexa may add to the effects of alcohol and other central nervous system (CNS) depressants (medicines that make you drowsy or less alert). Some examples of CNS depressants are antihistamines or medicine for hay fever, other allergies, or colds; sedatives, tranquilizers, or sleeping medicine; prescription pain medicine or narcotics; barbiturates; medicine for seizures; muscle relaxants; or anesthetics, including some dental anesthetics. Check with your doctor before taking any CNS depressants while you are taking zyprexa.
