Nelfinavir, used in combination with at least 2 other medications, is used to help treat your HIV infection, thereby improving your quality of life. It also lowers your risk of getting HIV complications (such as new infections, cancer). Nelfinavir belongs to a class of drugs known as protease inhibitors.
Nelfinavir is a type of medicine called an HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) protease inhibitor. Nelfinavir is always used in combination with other antiretroviral drugs in the treatment of people with HIV infection.
Nelfinavir works by blocking HIV protease , which is required for HIV to multiply. Nelfinavir has been shown to significantly reduce the amount of HIV in the blood. Although Nelfinavir is not a cure for HIV or AIDS, Nelfinavir can help reduce your risk for death and illness associated with HIV. Patients who took Nelfinavir also had significant increases in the number of T cells.
