Losartan (Hyzaar) is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that helps prevent your body from absorbing too much salt, which can cause fluid retention.

Losartan (Hyzaar) is in a group of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. Losartan (Hyzaar) keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure improves blood flow.

To be sure Losartan (Hyzaar) is helping your condition, your blood pressure will need to be checked on a regular basis. Your kidney function may also need to be tested. Do not miss any scheduled visits to your doctor.

If you are being treated for high blood pressure, keep using Losartan (Hyzaar) even if you feel fine. High blood pressure often has no symptoms.

Losartan (Hyzaar) can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Avoid drinking alcohol. It can lower your blood pressure and may increase some of the side effects of Losartan (Hyzaar).
