Letrozole is a medication that has been widely used in women with breast cancer. It is sold under the trade name Femara. Letrozole belongs to a class of medications known as aromatase inhibitors.After surgery, the risk of cancer coming back is ongoing. Oncologists generally recommend additional treatment to help reduce that risk.
Femara (Letrozole) is approved for the treatment given after surgery to minimize risk of recurrence of postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive early stage breast cancer.
Femara (Letrozole) is also approved for the extended adjuvant treatment of early stage breast cancer in postmenopausal women who are within three months of completion of five years of tamoxifen therapy.
