Cefepime is an antibiotic in a class of drugs called cephalosporins. Cefepime fights bacteria in the body.
Cefepime is used to treat many different types of bacterial infections including respiratory, skin, genital, urinary, bone, joint, and other infections. Cefepime will not treat a viral infection, such as the flu or common cold.
Cefepime is indicated for Pneumonia (moderate to severe) caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, including cases associated with concurrent bacteremia, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, or Enterobacter species. Cefepime is used for Empiric therapy for febrile neutropenia. Cefepime is also used for uncomplicated Skin and Skin Structure Infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus (methicillin-susceptible strains only) or Streptococcus pyogenes.
Take the cefepime for as many days as it has been prescribed for you, even if you begin to feel better.
