Betaxolol lowers eye pressure and treating open-angle glaucoma. Betaxolol suspension is an ophthalmic beta-blocker. It is unknown exactly how Betaxolol suspension works to reduce the fluid pressure inside the eye, but it appears to reduce the amount of liquid produced.
Although Betaxolol, a type of drug called a beta blocker, is applied directly to the eye, it may be absorbed into the bloodstream. Because Betaxolol may have effects in other parts of the body, you should use it cautiously if you have diabetes, asthma or other respiratory diseases, or decreased heart function.
The usual dose is one drop of betaxolol eye drops in the affected eye(s) twice a day. The dose may vary according to need. The full effects of the eye drops may not be seen for a period of a few weeks.
